Ice Maker Leak (2003/2004)

We connected the ice maker in our new refrigerator ourselves, but it was a plastic line with no slack and it leaked. We went without ice for half the year before we had plumbers replace the plastic line with flexible copper tubing.

Next joy: garage door opener

Discovery

We don't ordinarily look behind the refrigerator, so it took us a while to notice this problem. The original plastic water line was too short, so it wasn't possible to connect it with enough clearance from the wall to make sure the seal was tight.

Replacement of Ice Maker Water Line

On the same day we had the plumbers reset the toilet in the 3rd-floor bathroom at the close of the leaking soil stack incident, we had them replace the ice maker water line with flexible copper tubing. Because the area in the basement under the refrigerator is a finished bathroom, it was necessary to punch a hole in the basement bathroom ceiling in order to install the new copper tubing.
